Do you think Dave Grohl would still be famous without Nirvana?

With him recording the entire frist Foo Fighters album himself, and then continuing to deliver with the Foo Fighters do you think that even with out playing in Nirvana that Dave Grohl would still be where he is today? I think so because he has had many popular songs and even albums after he left Nirvana.
