Am I overreacting to the term "Special Friend"?
I've been dating a man exclusively for 7 months, and he's referred to me as his "girlfriend" on several occions. The other night, we met a new person, (who I felt was hitting on me), and I ran over to my date, so this guy would KNOW I was with someone. He followed me, and said to my date, "is this your wife?" The man I'm seeing is kind of deaf, and said "what?", while I was saying, "no, girlfriend". The man said "I was asking if she's your wife", and my date said, "no, she's my special friend", and launched into a story about how we're both divorced, etc. I was terribly offended by BOTH being called a "special friend" and by his telling my divorce story. I don't tell that story to everyone, and not upon our first introduction. Is this an age thing? I'm in my late 40's, and the man I'm seeing is 10 years older. I told him I think "special friend" is a term describing an 80 year old's platonic friend in their obituary.....Am I overreacting?
