Does wine affect silver plate or can the silver hurt the taste of the wine?

I'm about ready to get rid of some very beautiful silver plated wine gles because I'm afraid the wine will ruin them or that they will taint the wine. I've actually read that some people think silver helps the taste of some wines. Anyone know if the chemical reaction is at least not a problem?
