Do I have to have gl doors on my fireplace?

We moved into a REO home that was gutted by the former criminal owners. We have replaced all of the fixtures, appliances etc that they stole. The only thing I haven't replaced in the fireplace gl doors. We have two fireplaces and replacement doors are really expensive. I would like to be able to burn firewood this winter.
